Kinesiology Taping

K-tape (short for kinesiology tape or Kinesio tape) is a thin, stretchy, elastic therapeutic tape applied directly to the skin to support muscles, joints, and soft tissue without restricting movement.

How It Works

  • Mimics Skin: Unlike rigid athletic tape that locks down a joint, K-tape is made of tightly woven cotton and spandex fibres that stretch to match the elasticity of human skin.
  • Lifts the Skin: When applied with light tension, the tape gently lifts the top layer of skin. This decompression creates microscopic space underneath to improve local blood and lymphatic flow, helping reduce swelling and bruising.
  • Sensory Feedback: It stimulates nerve receptors (proprioceptors) in the skin, sending constant signals to the brain to improve movement awareness, muscle engagement, and pain relief.

Common Uses

  • Pain Relief: Easing discomfort from minor sports injuries, tendonitis, or muscle fatigue.
  • Swelling and Oedema: Encouraging lymphatic drainage to clear out fluid build-up after a sprain or trauma.

Muscle Support: Helping cue weak or overworked muscles to fire better during exercise.
